Historical Facts
When the INSET project ended, the Centres were taken over in 1996, by the French Cooperation Mission, within the context of the PASECA (Programme d’Appui au System Educative Camerounaise) project. This project incorporated French, Biology and Chemistry. It also created other centres in Yaounde, Douala, Bafoussam and Garoua. When the PASECA project ended in December 2000, all the Centres were naturally handed over to the Government of Cameroon. In January 2002, the National Pedagogic Support Centre (Centre National D’Appui a L’Action Pedagogique - CNAAP) was created by Decree No. 2002/004 of 4 January 2002. TRU Bamenda is today one of the ten regional branches of the Teachers’ Resource Unit. In December 2017, the Office was relocated from behind BICEC in the former Treasury building to the edifice of the Regional Delegation of Secondary Education Up Station. By Decree No. 2012/267 of 11 June 2012 bearing on the organization of the Ministry of Secondary Education, it is charged with the following: -Spearheading Pedagogic Research; -In-service training of personnel; -Management of pedagogic infrastructures and equipment; -Production and distribution of educative resources; -Development of digital educative resources in collaboration with the Inspectorates of Pedagogy; -Organization of preliminary validation of educative resources elaborated locally; -Provision of library services to the education community; To effectively carry out its mission, the TRU is organised in four departments namely: Pedagogic research, materials production &documentation, personnel training and equipment& infrastructure management. Some departments comprise a number of units.
